Eligibility Criteria

1. You must complete your master's degree in either Marine Biology or a related subject. This course can be pursued after an M.Sc or M.Tech degree in Marine Biology or a similar discipline.
2. You must have a minimum of 60% in the graduation and a minimum of 55% in the master's degree.
3. There is no category for Marine Biology or a similar subject in the UGC NET, although there is a category for Environmental Sciences. A junior research fellowship in Environmental Sciences will not suffice for a PhD. in this subject. But this also depends on the university that you are applying. You may ask the professors of the Ocean Studies and Marine Biology department whether a rank in Environmental Sciences in UGC NET will suffice for the admission. If not, then there is no area in UGC NET where you can sit for the examination to study Marine Biology. That is why, you must clear the entrance examination of the university. This examination is conducted to shortlist the probable candidates for this course.
4. You must clear an interview after you pass the entrance examination to be a part of this course.

Future Job Prospects

1. You can become a research associate in a government funded project. If you are looking for a government job, then this is the best option for you.
2. If you are not looking for government projects, then you can apply for the post of Assistant Professor in a Marine Engineering college.
