Overview
Even though primarily an agricultural based economy, in recent years a lot of developments have taken place in the country in setting up manufacturing industries, both in the government as well as private sector. A specialized area in the mechanical stream, production engineering mainly deals with the industrial production that takes place in factories and manufacturing plants. Considering that India is a growing economy with a lot of focus on the manufacturing industry, the scope for production engineers is huge. As a production engineer you are responsible for looking after the entire production process. You are expected to bring upon improvements in the manufacturing systems through innovations and effective planning of resources. The role of a production engineer is synonymous with that of an industrial engineer with little differences.
Eligibility and course duration
Pass in 10+2 with physics, chemistry and math or an equivalent qualification. Entry to most such courses is through marks obtained in the qualifying exam or JEE mains type entrance exams.
More about the course
B.Tech in production engineering is available in most of the top colleges in the country. It is an effective course for those who want to establish themselves in the manufacturing industry. Through this course you get to learn the intricacies involved in setting up manufacturing systems and production processes. The role of a production engineer is an important one as he or she is the one ensuring that the entire production system works most smoothly and efficiently. Often the efficiency and in turn the profitability of a manufacturing unit depends upon how well the manufacturing processes are set up.
