Eligibility:
Any candidate having completed 10+2 HSC Science examination is eligible for taking admission to this course. Few colleges also admit based on qualified JEE examination or Institute level entrance examination score.

Course overview:
This branch of engineering is concerned with developing processes and managing processes which turn raw material to finished product. It is not that simple as it sounds. The production engineer needs to have an aptitude for intricate design and careful planning to create a quality product. The curriculum is designed to impart professional and technical skills to the student so that he or she can contribute to the industrial community.
Course Details:
The BTech Production Engineering course is of four year duration with curriculum comprising of basic subjects and core and advanced production in the first year and beyond respectively. The subjects are taught using instructor led sessions, hands on training, tutorial, projects and internship. The first year subjects are engineering physics, engineering chemistry, engineering mechanics, engineering drawing, engineering mathematics, workshop etc. The core subjects related to the discipline are thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, machine processing, quality engineering, mechatronics, CAD, production, planning and control, theory of machines, electrical drives, metallurgy, foundry, metal forming technology, welding, strength of materials etc. In the final year students opt for electives of their choice. The curriculum also includes a final year project or a dissertation which is a group activity while few institutes include a mandatory six month internship.

Production engineers can seek job opportunities in various manufacturing setups like armed forces, railways, industries (production firms, automation units ) etc. both in the government or the private sector. The graduates are offered good positions and attractive remuneration and incentives. Most of the jobs pertain to managing production at the supervisor or managerial level for smooth operation and optimal performance of the industry.
Higher studies:
If interested the graduate can take up Master's studies and complete ME/ MTech in the same discipline or go on to study MBA.
