Overview
AMIE in Civil Engineering is a great opportunity for practicing diploma holders, who want to pursue a degree course in this age old discipline. Equivalent to B.E./B.Tech, the course is a versatile one and can be easily pursued by those who are employed by means of self study and appearing for exams from time to time. Papers are held twice a year, May/June and November/December in most cities of the country. The complete course is divided into two sections, A and B. Number of papers to be appeared are 19. In-between the Section B papers, one has to also attend for laboratory work and submit project report.
Eligibility
Pass in 10+2, with Math, Chemistry and Physics. Diploma holders have an advantage over non-diploma candidates. They have to appear six papers less in the section A.
Course duration
Depending upon a student's capability, one can complete the course in minimum three years. However, the maximum time limit is six years each for both sections.

Civil engineering deals with designing, constructing and maintaining physical structures and infrastructural works like roadways, bridges, buildings, factories and dams. Along with military engineering, it is among the oldest of disciplines. As is suggested by its name, civil engineering primarily concerns with civilian structures. The Pyramids at Giza and the Great Wall of China are a few examples of exceptional civil engineering construction during the past. For completing this course successfully one needs to be good in subjects like physics, math and design. Some of the core areas which are dealt in civil engineering are structural engineering, geo-technical engineering, civil engineering materials, environment, water resources, transportation, construction management and surveying.
