Overview
The fascinating world of electricity and electrons inspires many. No doubt electrical engineering is a popular field of study for many students in colleges across the country. Through AMIE one can readily obtain a degree in engineering without attending any regular college. With a bit of effort, someone with a 3 year engineering diploma can complete the course in mere 3 years. Non-diploma candidates can hope to complete in 4 years. That is because non-diploma holders have to appear for 6 more papers in Section A. There are 19 papers in all for a non-diploma student. Section A is common for all branches. The core papers are all in Section B.
Eligibility
Should be 10+2 pass with Physics, Chemistry and Math.
Duration
Minimum 3 years for diploma holders and 4 years for non-diplomas. Maximum period is however 6 years each for Section A and Section B respectively.
More about the course
Diploma students who are to appear for the Section A exam, have to appear for the subjects based on the following four topics; design & manufacturing, computers, material science and environment. Section B subjects are based on topics; engineering management, power systems, circuit theory, field theory, electrical machines, machine design and measurement. 6 of the Section B subjects are compulsory and 3 are to be selected from any of the groups of optional papers. Laboratory experiments and project work are also part of Section B.
A pioneering field
Electrical engineering is one of the most in demand branches of engineering. The applications of electricity are to be found in every field. There is no field untouched of electricity and its vast applications. Electronics, instrumentation, communication, computers and information technology are all based on the principles of electricity. To think a world without electricity is simply unimaginable. Future automobiles and aeroplanes are all likely to be propelled by electrical energy. As such electrical engineers can fit into a myriad variety of roles in the industrial world.
Job opportunities
With respect to employment in Government, public and private sector, AMIE is considered at par with regular courses like B.E./B.Tech. It provides you employment opportunities equivalent to a regular degree course. After doing this course you can find employment in a variety of fields, after all most sectors and industries are based on electricity. In case you decide upon higher education, then the gates are open for you to pursue M.E./M.Tech.
