Overview
A career in aeronautical engineering or in the aviation world has always been a high profile one. Compared to other fields, those working in this sector have always enjoyed a special respect and recognition. A.M.AeSI Aeronautical Engineering is a non-formal way of education, where you don't have to attend a regular college. The course is conducted by Aeronautical Society of India, a society serving the field of aviation, aerospace and aeronautics. The course is recognised by the Government of India and also by Engineering Council, London UK as equivalent to Bachelors Degree in Aeronautical Engineering.
Eligibility and duration
Pass in 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Math. Minimum of 50% marks is essential in each subject. Those having done an engineering diploma or a course in aircraft maintenance engineering are also eligible. B.Sc holders having an aggregate of 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Math can apply too.
Minimum 4 years to complete the course.
More about the course
The course is divided into two sections, A and B. Both the sections consist of 10 papers each. Exams are held twice a year in June and December, all over the country. Section B is divided into 4 streams, namely, aero-mechanical, avionics, maintenance & production(mechanical) and maintenance & production(electrical).
This course gets you build up a strong footing in the aviation world. The course helps you in building your knowledge of aeronautical sciences and aircraft engineering. You come to know the science behind a flying aircraft. As an engineer you will be responsible for the designing, building and the maintenance of an aircraft. It is worth noting that a large pool of manpower in India has been trained through this non-formal way of education being imparted by the Aeronautical Society of India. Aeronautical and astronautical engineering are branches of aerospace engineering.
Job opportunities
It is obvious, most of the jobs are available in the aviation sector, either in aircraft manufacturing, operations or maintenance. As the aviation market is very well developed in the western countries and the Gulf region, a lot of opportunities are available abroad for the deserving candidates. Some of the top aircraft manufacturing companies to work for are Boeing, Airbus, Bombardier, Embraer, etc. Domestic and foreign airliners are good hunting grounds for job hunters. HAL, a government company manufacturing aircrafts also recruits aeronautical engineers. Avenues also open up for appearing in GATE and postgraduate degrees courses.
