Course introduction
M.A. stands for Master of Arts and it is a post graduation degree. M.A. with specialization in Rural Development is a new initiative taken by India and it is for India. It makes their students capable to take initiative and strong action for the development of rural area of India. They learn about the details of standard of people living in remote villages and non-urban areas, their problems and solutions.
Eligibility
As it is a post graduate course, candidates with their graduation degree from any recognized college or university are eligible for this course. The previous specialization is not mostly considered for this course and candidates from any relevant field can apply for this course.

This course is of 2 years full time duration. These 2 years are divided into 4 different semesters by some institutes. In that case, the syllabus is also get divided into 4 parts and students need to qualify each semester.
This course is also available as distance learning programme and in that case the duration is extended till 4-5 years depending upon institute.
Further study options
Candidates can pursue M.Phil, PhD after their course completion. This will give them opportunity to learn the research aspects of their field.
They can also go for MBA and can get job in some good companies working for rural development.

Departments/agencies which are working for rural development want these candidates. NGOs, Cooperatives Banks and many other institutions which are engaged in rural transformation/development always recruit candidate having this specialization.
Many corporate companies like Tata, Mafatlal, Arvind Mills etc. have their own rural development units where they require these professionals.
The main working areas for these students are Government Development Agencies, Voluntary Organizations, State Resource Centers and International donor Agencies. Candidates can also go for Self - Employment if they want to run their own organization.
