Course introduction
PhD is Doctorate in Philosophy which is open for all the fields or specialization. Candidate from technical, Medical, Literature or any other field can pursue this course.
In case of Civil Engineering, the course is aimed to provide special expertise in its area. Its syllabus includes the study of its origin, history, development and other adjunct topics. After the whole study, candidate needs to select and original topic and then to conduct research on that.
Eligibility
Masters Degree (4 years graduation degree exceptional for Engineering courses) is the very most requirement for this course. A candidate who has done B.E. or M.E. in Civil Engineering is eligible to pursue this course.

- If you are teaching at any particular institute, you can register yourself directly there for your PhD.
- Nationalized admission tests are the procedure to get scholarship for your PhD. This test includes CSIR, UGC, GATE and others.
Duration
Being a research based course, the duration is not fixed. If it is through scholarship programme, candidate is bound to complete his/her research within stipulated time. If it is self funded or as a part time, it can take even 5-7 years.
Age limit
There is no age limit for this course. There are some candidates who have even pursued this immediate before their retirement.
Further study options
Usually PhD is considered as a last course which can be pursued to get excellence in any stream. Still if one wants to learn about other related courses in his/her related field, he/she can go for it. It may include short term technical courses, Computer based courses, etc.
