Introduction to Master of Arts in Sanskrit
Sanskrit is a historical and translocal language of intellectual life in South Asia for centuries of years. Sanskrit is the language in which South Asian kings, poets and religious seers chose to express themselves. It is one of the world's ancient languages. Many science and mathematics texts have been written in Sanskrit. It is the sacred language of Hinduism. The Sanskrit language was introduced by sages with divine scriptures. People have spoken Sanskrit since the beginning of the human civilization.
M.A. in Sanskrit is a post graduate course. The course in divided two four semesters.The course equips the students with the knowledge of poetry in Sanskrit, epics of Indian literature, drama and the history of classical Sanskrit literature. The students study about the literary works of great writers. The students would also be learning the Sanskrit essentials like alankaras, vyakaranas, Upanishads, Dharamasuturas , sahityas etc.
The syllabus of the course covers the following; Valmiki Ramayana, Studies in epics and puranas, manuscriptology, textual criticism, contributions of Indian poets, production and classification of sounds, morphology, Sanskrit linguistics, study of prescribed texts, history of Vedic literature Vedic hymns etc.
The texts includes Malavika-Agnimitra, Raghuvamsa, Kumara Sambhava, Rutusamhara, Meghadutum.
Eligibility for the Course
The students should have completed B.A. degree from a recognised university in Arts.
Students interested in Sanskrit language and who are keen in preserving the ancient literature and spreading the language are eligible for the admission. The students should posses good speaking, reading and writing skills for the course.

The candidates can opt for higher educations in Sanskrit (B.Ed, M.Phil, P.hd), They can find jobs as Sanskrit teacher in Schools & Colleges.
