Overview
Gynecology and obstetrics is a branch of medical science related to the study of female reproductive organs in pregnant and non-pregnant condition. PG Diploma in Gynecology & Obstetrics course has been designed and developed for the medical students who are willing to pursue their career as a Gynecologist. During the course, the medical students will learn about the various procedures related to women check up, pregnancy, pregnancy care, abnormalities, infant care, family planning, etc. The aim of the course is to improve the standard of obstetric and gynecological care provided by medical practitioners working in the society. During the course, the medical students are provided formal education as well as clinical training.
Eligibility criteria
To pursue PG Diploma in Gynecology & Obstetrics. candidate must have passed MBBS course with one year internship.
Duration
The duration of the course is four years, to be covered in four semesters.
Course syllabus
The aim of the course is to improve and the knowledge of the medical students in the field of obstetric and gynecological care. During the course, the students get opportunity to update their knowledge on early pregnancy screening, common antenatal problems, pregnancy care, Cesarean Section , current contraception, managing common menstrual problems, HRT use,
incontinence and much more.
The two year course will cover following subjects:
1. Contraception and Pre and Early Pregnancy: Under this subject, you will learn about contraception, Preconceptual counselling, Early pregnancy screening, Early normal pregnancy management, etc.
2. Pregnancy and Postnatal Care : The subject covers topics related to pregnancy care, Obstetric emergencies, common disorders and birth complications in pregnancy etc.
3. Medical Gynecology : The subject covers topics related to Cervical and breast screening, menstrual disorders, Sexually transmitted infections, vaginal discharges, vulval problems, menopause, termination of pregnancy, Urogynecology / prolapse, Gynecological cancers (cervical and vulval), Gynecological cancers (ovarian and endometrial).
Apart from the theoretical knowledge, the students will be be given clinical exposure to understand the various procedures such as laproscopic hysterectomy, IUI, IVF, TESA, PESA, ICSI .
Job opportunities
After completion of the course, students may seek job as a obstetrician or gynecologist in a government or private hospital. They may set up their own clinic. They may also purse higher studies.
