Course introduction
M.E Optical Communication is basically a Post graduate course in the field of Engineering. Optical Communication deals with study of various applications of Optics. This course prepares candidates and makes them capable in applying Scientific and Mathematical principles for designing, development and evaluation of any optical systems. It includes study of lasers and other related devices. Wave Mechanics, Electromagnetism, harmonic generation, etc are some important topics of this course.
Eligibility
Candidates holding Bachelors of Engineering (BE) or Bachelors of Technology (B.tech) from any recognized university are eligible for this course.
Minimum passing marks may vary from institute to institute.
Admission Procedure
Being a technical course, most of the institutes conduct entrance tests for this course. The final selection depends upon candidate's performance in entrance test and then in interview.
Duration
It is having 2 years duration. These 2 years are divided into 4 semesters, each of 6 months duration. Please note, this course is not available in distance learning mode.

It has Statistical Signal processing, Optical communication (basic and advanced), Applied Mathematics, and Optical Waveguide theory as special topics. For practical, they have Fibre Optics and Optical Networking to learn in laboratories.
Other misc topics are like Quantum Electronics, Optical Computing, Sensors, Photonics Switching, etc. Digital Image processing and digital communication receivers are also included in the course.
