The BCom course enables students to develop necessary professional knowledge and skills in Accounting, Finance, Marketing, Taxation, Export-Import management etc. The BCom course is taught for the duration of three years, split into six semesters. The range of subjects offered can vary between twenty-four to thirty-five, depending upon the institute, which may include the English and Language subjects as well.
When specialization is taken into consideration, students are offered a choice between various subjects like Business Communication, Marketing Management, Business Administration, Banking and Finance, Cost & Works Accounting, etc. While some institutes offer only a chance of specializing in the third year of the course, others introduce specialization second year onwards.
The mode of being taught BCom is usually in a classroom format. However, universities like IGNOU offer this course in either a distance learning or open university format. This enables working students to efficiently utilize their free time to enhance their professional skills and build a strong and impressive resume.
In this format, the duration of the course ranges from a minimum three years to a maximum of six years, with students having to attain a total of ninety-six credits in order to qualify for graduation. Their strong infrastructure of distance learning enables monthly Teleconferencing with a faculty member or resource person, which shall be used as a doubt-clearing session. There is also an option of Radio Counselling through FM where students can ask their doubts free of cost by calling on a toll free number. The availability of an audio-video facility promotes a healthy learning environment for the students.
Eligibility for the Course
Students having successfully cleared their High School Certification (10+2, PUC, or equivalent) in Arts or Commerce or Science, obtaining a minimum of 60% aggregate marks are eligible to apply for the course.

A BCom graduate has many options available to them in the fields of accounting, business, or commerce. Undergoing a BCom course prepares students to be able to appear for higher examinations such as CA (Chartered Accountant), ICWAI (Institution of Cost & Works Accountants of India), ACS, MBA, or other Master's programs in Commerce or Management.
