PhD. is a research based degree with a full name as "Doctorate of Philosophy". PhD in Tamil is a course which allows students to have thorough reading of Tamil literature ad then to pursue a research on a topic as per their own interest.
This course is available in regular s well as in distance learning/ correspondence mode. Candidates can even pursue the same along with their ongoing job. They only need to be in contact of their supervisor and to study on their own.
Eligibility
The eligibility criteria requires a post graduation degree in Tamil. Candidates holding M.A in Tamil / M.Phil in Tamil are eligible for this course. The minimum required marks vary from one institute to another and ranges between 50%-60%.
There is no age restriction for this course and a candidate can pursue the same at ay time of his/ her professional life as per the requirement, suitability and interest.
Admission Procedure
Admission for PhD has different ways-
- Direct admission- This requires submission of application form explaining your scope of research to the institute as well as selected supervisor.
- Through National level examinations- CSIR and UGC conduct National Eligibility Test twice a year. If a candidate qualifies for PhD, he or she can get admission in reputed government institute for PhD.
- Through Institute level entrance test- Many government institutes conduct their own entrance examinations for PhD. Candidates need to submit the application form and perform well in entrance examination.
- Other way- The other ways includes extending the current project, enroll for PhD along with teaching assistance, contacting a supervisor and request to accept you for research work.
Duration
The duration for this course is variable with no strict policies. The usual duration ranges between 4- 6 years.
Course highlights
The initial part of course includes reading of literature already available on the selected topic. Candidates go through those papers and then start their own research.
Once they are done with their research, they need to write their thesis explaining about their research. The last step is to give presentation and defend your thesis in front of panel of experts in your field.
