Introduction
M.D.S. is Master of Dental Surgery, which is a post graduation course in the field of Dentistry. It has many specializations and Oral Pathology & Microbiology is one among them. It deals with dental diseases including various factors like nature of disease, cause, characteristics, effects and its diagnosis. It also includes study about oral and maxillofacial regions ad their immune system to understand the functioning of treatment.
This course is not offered through correspondence as it needs practical sessions and training through specimens for candidates.
Eligibility
Candidates holding B.D.S from any of the recognized university are eligible for this course. An internship of 1 year is also required after B.D.S completion. The minimum qualifying marks should be at least 55% as an aggregate. Regarding age restriction, candidates need to check the same from particular institute before submitting their application form.
If a candidate from non dental back ground wants to pursue this course, he or she needs to get approval from Dental Council of India.
Admission Procedure
For admission, candidates needs to submit their filled application form before due date. Some institutes offer admissions on merit basis. Some institutes consider the performance of candidates in All India Common Entrance Test (AICET).
There are some institutes, which are conducting their own entrance test for admissions.
Duration
The duration for this course is 3 years and these 3 years gives complete knowledge and training to the candidates to work successfully as professionals.
Further Study options
After completion of this course, candidates willing to continue their studies further can enroll for PhD in Dentistry. PhD is a research based course and candidates can conduct their own research on the topic of their choice. This course enhances their knowledge as well as job prospects.
