This course has two parts, namely- a) coursework and b) research work. The course work may be of 1-2 years depending on the institute providing it. Some universities require that you choose a research guide from their faculty list first. If the research guide you choose from their faculty list agrees to work with you, you will get a chance to appear for the Ph.D interview.

Eligibility Criteria

1. You must have master's degree in either computer science engineering or information technology engineering.The cut-off criteria for the marks scored in the master's degree of engineering is 60% or above.
2. You must clear the common entrance examination taken by the respective university where you are opting for admission.
3. Once you clear this examination, it will be advantageous for you if you talk to a research guides in the university. It would help you to secure a position in the interview, if one of the research guides has agreed to be your mentor.
4. Some universities keep an additional requirement regarding the marks obtained in graduation. Generally the cut-off in this regard is 65% or more.

1. A huge demand of such Ph.D holders is there in abroad universities. Especially European universities have quite a number of vacancies each year for the foreign students. You can grab a research project in such a university and earn a fortune.
2. If you wish to be a teacher then you can apply for Assistant Professor positions in universities abroad. If you apply in Indian university with a Ph.D degree then you will be selected as an Associate professor. But in abroad you will have to start with assistantship first.
3. If you don't wish to go into academics, then you can join the technical support team of an IT company.You can join a company directly as a senior software developer.
