Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) is one of the popular degree courses in India. Bachelor of Science is correlated with a large number of diversified field of Science as well as Non-Science. In this section of Indiastudychannel.com describes more about the scope and traits of Bachelor of Science degree.
One of the first difficulties that students are faced with after passing out from their XII grade exams is what stream should they choose for their undergraduate studies. Among the most popular undergraduate cour
ses is the Bachelor of Science, which is also abbreviated as the B.Sc. There is at times debate as to whether a subject belongs to the arts category or that of the science. For instance, some institutes would offer a Bachelor in Arts (B.A) degree to students who do a bachelor degree in Economics (BEc or BEcon) while others would offer a Bachelor in Science Degree (B.Sc.). However, there is no doubt with relation to subjects like Maths, Physics, Chemistry or Biology. They clearly belong to the science stream. Now, the idea behind a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) course is that it offers a student with deep theoretical and practical knowledge pertaining to a particular subject. For students who are interested in joining the teaching line, pursuing a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) degree can be a good choice for them. This degree offers a higher level of academic understanding in the subject in which a student is pursuing a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) Degree.

Now, there are some simple Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) Courses such as B.Sc Physics, B.Sc Chemistry, B.Sc Maths and B.Sc Home Science and some professional B.Sc. courses such as B.Sc Biochemistry, B.Sc Aviation and B.Sc Forestry. Also, there is a distinction between B.Sc General and B.Sc Honours. While B.Sc general courses are more of foundational in nature and prepare a student with basic information pertaining to a subject, the B.Sc Honours courses is a more recommended course because it is much more specialized when compared to its counterpart. The latter also has better job prospects and corporations tend to prefer the latter over the former when selecting candidates.

Duration - The duration of a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) course generally is three years to five years depending on the university from where the candidate is pursuing the course.

Eligibility - Different universities and colleges have different eligibility requirements for different courses. And to date, there is no national level exam for determining the eligibility of a student for a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) course. However, the general eligibility requirement for getting into a college and pursue Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) is that a candidate must have passed their XII standard with at least 55 percent marks in the best of four subjects. For the B.Sc Honours course, to be eligible for the course, there is an additional requirement that students must have taken some compulsory subjects in their XII grade.

Cost of Study - The Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) course is not very costly. Depending upon the institute where one is studying, the cost of study can range from a few thousands to close to a lakh. For instance, the cost of Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) in Diabetic Sciences at Amrita University is 45,000 only. The cost of study also depends on the subject in which one is pursuing Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) Thus, the cost of B.Sc in Dialysis Therapy at the same university is Rs. 1,10,000. The course can be pursued from Delhi University at a cost of less than 30,000, depending on the subject.

Admission Procedure - The admission procedure for Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) courses is simple. There are not many entrance exams for Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) courses. Most colleges take admission into B.Sc courses on merit basis of the candidate till their XII standard studies. Most colleges have a criterion whereby students who opted science in their plus two and passed their cut off marks will get in. The documents generally required to be submitted for admission into one of the B.Sc courses are the 10th and 12th grade mark sheets, the SLC (School Leaving Certificate), Domicile Certificates. Students seeking admissions under the various reservation quotas may submit proof of quota. An attested Xerox copy of such documents should be submitted. The forms for admission into B.Sc courses in India are generally available around June or July of every year. Students may be charged some minimal fee against the B.Sc admission forms. There are many job prospects for B.Sc Honours students and the advantage here is that they are not limited to science fields only. However, before trying to get a job after pursuing a B.Sc degree in an area, it is often recommended that students pursue a master's degree in their area of specialization. The advantages of Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) + Master of Science (M.Sc) combination clearly shows in terms of salary as well as in the technical know-how in that subject. A B.Sc student may on the one hand opt to become a researcher, he may apropos pursue a degree in B.Ed. and opt for the teaching line, which is one of the most sought after jobs after pursuing B.Sc degrees.
