An interjection is a word which expresses some sudden feelings. For example:

Hello! I am glad you have come.

Hurrah! I have stood first in the class.

Alas! The great leader is no more.

Bravo! A great hit.

The word interjection means thrown in. so an interjection is a word thrown in to express some sudden feeling. Otherwise, it does not disturb the sentence al all.

We always put an exclamation mark (!) after the interjection.

Here is the list of most common interjections and the feeling they express:

Hurrah – joy

Alas – grief

Hello – a word used just to greet somebody.

Ah – again shows grief (some personal grief)

Oh – sadness or wonder

Hush – an indication to someone to be quiet

What – surprise or anger
