Using a Capital Letter

A capital letter is used

1.To begin the first word of every sentence.

2.To begin the first word of every line of poetry.

3.To begin a proper Noun.

4.To begin a word indicating a personification.

5.To begin the names of days and months.

6.For the Pronoun ‘I' and Interjection ‘O'.

7.To begin all Nouns and pronouns referring to God.

8.To begin all ranks, titles, degrees, designations, languages, subjects, religions, races, castes, parties, institutions, and associations.


Sample Usage

Examples of 1.

1.Man is mortal.
2.Youth is hot and bold.
3.Make hay while the sun shines.
4.Money makes the mare go.
5.They never die who die for a noble cause.


Examples of 2.

1.Will no one tell me what she sings?
Perhaps the plaintive numbers flow
For old unhappy, far-off things,
And battles long ago. –Wordsworth.
2.Lives of great men all remind us,
We can make our lives sublime,
And departing leave behind us
Foot-prints on the sand of time. –H.W. Longfellow.

Byron, Shelley, Keats, William Wordsworth, Samuel Taylor, William Blake, Robert Burns, Rohit Mian, John Milton, William Shakespeare, Mahatma Gandhi, Subhash Chandra Bose etc.


Examples of 4.

1.But hail thou goddess, sage and holy!
Hail divinest Melancholy.
2.Stern Daughter of the Voice of God!
O Duty!
3.Rarely, rarely, comes thou,
Spirit of Delight.


Examples of 5.

Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday; January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November and December.

1.I do not know I am so happy today.
2.He told me that I could go whenever I liked.
3.You, he and I are good friends.
4.O Captain! My captain, rise up and hear the bells.
