IF Clause and its different uses

“If" clause is very important while making conditional sentences in English Language.

We can use this clause in three different ways as below:

1.Clause can be used to indicate what will happen in a given situation.

If + Simple Present, will + Future tense

For example:

If you give me your bike for a drive, I will help you
If you send me money, I will deliver the goods immediately.

2.For the second type If Clause can be used to indicate what could happen if situations were different.

If + Simple Past, Would + infinitive

For Example:

If we had more papers, we would write more efficiently.
If we delivered poor food, we would not be the leading cook.

3.The third way indicates what could have happened in the past if a situation had been different then

If + Past Perfect, would + have + past participle

For Examples:

If you had read the book, you would have cleared the exam.
If I had taken the train, I would have been late.



Sample Usage

Type I :

If you invite me for drive, I will help you

Type II :

If we had more papers, we would write more efficiently.

Type III :

If you had read the book, you would have cleared the exam.
