When applying for a job, one has to give reference letter to the company they have applied for it. Mostly the reference letters are expected from the previous employers. The writer gives a general assessment of the character and capabilities of the person who they refer.
It is better not to use the reference of a person unless he/she has given a permission to do so. It is better be known earlier as to what the person is going to write about you. So, it will be better to ask references from those people, with whom there is a good rapport.
Previous bosses, ex-collegues, co-workers, vendors and customers are a good choice to ask for references. Every time a person changes jobs, it will be better to ask for a reference letter from the previous boss. If you can attest my qualifications or the employment and the skills that I acquired during my tenure in your company, I shall be highly thankful to you.
