To be a scapegoat means to take the blame for something that one has not actually done.

Sample Usage

1. Sarika could not understand why the boss picked on her each time there was a problem with the office computers; she felt she was being made the scapegoat.

2. The architect was made the scapegoat when the house collapsed, while actually the builder should have been arrested for using poor quality cement.

3. Whenever the cricket team lost, the vice-captain became the scapegoat.
