Allege means to assert to be true without proof.

Allege is a verb.

Antonyms: disclaim, deny, refute, retract, disavow.

Tip: Alleged is the adjective form of allege.

Example:
The police read the alleged accomplice her rights.


Sample Usage

The police allege that Rani had killed her husband, but it is up to the jury to decide if the allegation is true.
