Benefactor means a person who provides support, especially financial aid.

Benefactor is a noun.

Synonyms: promoter, sponsor, backer, contributor, donor, patron, philanthropist.

Antonyms: malefactor, reprobate.

Note: Do not make the common mistake of confusing beneficiary (one who receives financial help or benefits) and benefactor (one who gives financial help or benefits).


Sample Usage

The beneficiary owes much of his success to the generous support of his benefactor.

We will be holding a VIP reception for benefactors of the auditorium.

We could not have built the new wing of the college without the generous support of our benefactors.
