Bereft means deprived of something.

Bereft is an adjective.

Synonyms: robbed, stripped, dispossessed.

Antonyms: supplied.

Note: Bereft is a past tense and past participle of bereave. Though bereft and bereaved may be used interchangeably, bereaved usually implies grieving at the loss of a loved one, while bereft usually refers to a more general loss.


Sample Usage

The whole issue left the family bereft of their dignity.

Present generation children may find their future bereft of the peace and security we once took for granted.

Everyone is acting crazy; they must be completely bereft of their senses!
