(a)When the adjective worthwhile is used before noun it is always written as one word.

(b)When the word worthwhile is used as a predicate, i.e., stands alone and comes after the verb it may be written as either one or two words.
Example: The effort spent on the mission was not worth while/worthwhile. His journey to his ancestral village was worth while because he could collect some manuscripts that his grandparents had written.
(c)The two parts of the word can be separated in the phrase to make worth one's while.
Example: It may not be worth your while to visit the old woman who cannot even speak.
