Difference between canvas and canvass

The two words "canvas" and "canvass" are mostly confused with one another. We must remember that "Canvas" is a noun and "Canvass" is a verb.

Canvas means:-
1.A closely woven, heavy cloth of cotton, hemp, or linen, used for tents, sails, etc.
2.A piece of this or similar material on which a painting is made.

Canvass means:
1.To solicit votes, subscriptions, opinions, or the like from.
2.To examine carefully; investigate by inquiry; discuss; debate.


Sample Usage

Examples of canvas:

1.Ray had the canvas litter that was kept at the depot for accidents on the road .
2.Don't cut the hole in he tent , for there would be safe to hear the canvas tear.
3.She took a closely woven canvas cloth and started embroidering on it.


Examples of canvass:
1.The political leaders canvassed for the votes.
2.The CID investigators canvassed the murder case carefully.
3.Me and my English teacher canvassed for the international debate competition.
