You must have seen hedges or fences in the gardens and parks that are in the shapes of various animals like giraffe, elephant, lion, horse etc. And a question must have come in your mind that "is there a word for this?" Yes, we do have a word for this - Topiary.
Topiary comes from the Latin word ‘topiarius', meaning ‘ornamental gardener'. Topiary is done using wire cages. The wire cages are in the shape of animals or geometrical shapes. The plants that are used in topiary are evergreen, mostly woody, have small leaves, produce dense foliage, and have compact growth habits. These plants are chosen to give a dense look so that the wires are not seen and the shape is prominent.
