Play second fiddleThis is an idiom which means to occupy a subordinate place, to be only in the second position. Some people always want to remain on the limelight. If anybody tries to dominate them, they may not like it because they never want to play second fiddle.
For example: The famous heroine refused to sign the new movie because she was asked to play the second fiddle to a junior heroine.
Sample Usage
Powerful people never like to play second fiddle to somebody. The deputy played the second fiddle to his captain during the latter's absence.
