Difference between 'Rare' and 'Scarce'

Rare
A rare thing is that only a few of which are found at any time.

Scarce
A thing is scarce,when for the time being it is not found in abundance.


Sample Usage

Rare
1. A large-sized emerald is a rare gem.
2. A rare flower.
3. A rare occurrence.

Scarce
1. Drinking water is scarce this year in our village due to insufficient rainfall.
2. Food is scarce because of the drought.
