Proscribe and prescribe are opposite in meanings.
Proscribe means "to prohibit"
Prescribe means "to set down as a rule to be followed"



Sample Usage

The Bill of Rights "proscribes" illegal search and entry.

The Khaki uniforms are " prescribed" by Army regulations, but civilian clothes are "proscribed".
