Homophones are nothing but a sets of words which sound the same when pronounced. They are called as homophones because in Greek language "Homo" means same and "phone" means sound. So when taken together, homophones are words which sound the same. It is a set of words. They can even have the same spellings but where lies the difference then?
The difference is in the meaning of the words. They entirely mean different and it can be a rare case when two homophones have even 40% similarity in them. They are to be taken good care when it comes to spellings and usage. People often spell some words incorrectly and use them for some other meaning which they have in the mind. What can they do? They are almost helpless without the actual idea of homophones.
Students often make mistakes in many types of examination because they even do not know that there are two or three words which sound like the same and they are using the wrong word in wrong place. So I would like to make this concept clear to people, who are interested in strengthening their English skills. I would provide you with some of the very important homonyms in a series of upcoming posts in this section. I would like the readers to have a look on all the upcoming parts.
