Past Continuous Tense
Past Continuous Tense is used:
1. To express an action completed in the past:
The girl was singing a song. The students were making a noise.
We were waiting for the bus. Some children were playing in the park.
Formation of Sentences
Affirmative Sentence
Pattern: Subject + was/were + first form of the verb + ing + object.
Examples:
1.I was going to school. 2. We were going to school.
3.You were going to school. 4. He was going to school.
5.She was going to school 6. They were going to school.
7.Razia was going to school. 8. Aman was going to school.
9.The children were going 10. The boys were going to school.

Remember:
1. For pronouns I, he, she, it or any other name, ‘was' is used after the subject.
2. For pronouns, we, you, they and any other plural, ‘were' is used after the subject.
3. ‘ing' is added to the first form of verb.
4. A Full Stop (.) is used at the end of the sentence.
Negative Sentence
Pattern: Subject + was/were + not + first form of the verb + ing + object.
Examples:
1.I was not going to school. 2. We were not going to school.
3.You were not going to school. 4. He was not going to school.
5.She was not going to school 6. They were not going to school.
7.Razia was not going to school. 8. Aman was not going to school.
9.The children were not going 10.The boys were not to school.
to school.
Remember:
1. For pronouns I, he, she, it and any other name, ‘was not' is used after the subject.
2. For pronouns, we, you, they or any other plural, ‘were not' is used after the subject.

Interrogative Sentence
Pattern: Was/were + Subject + first form of the verb + ing + object.
Examples:
1.Was I going to school? 2. Were we going to school?

7.Was Razia going to school? 8. Was Aman going to school?
9.Are the children going 10.Were the boys going to school?
