Complex prepositions
The prepositions which consist of more than one words are called Complex prepositions. Given below are a few of them:

such as, close to, along with, in favour of, in spite of, owing to.

Examples: There are a few tourist places in Bangalore such as the ISKCON Temple and Lalbagh.

I live close to a park.

Mary went to the Supermarket along with her mother.

The committee voted in favour of Rita.

Rani met with a major accident in spite of driving carefully.

Owing to heavy rains , the school will remain closed tomorrow.

Please note: Whenever an action word such as drive or go follows a preposition or a complex preposition, the action verb will be in gerund form i.e, going, driving.etc.

Sample Usage

Don't go close to the mad dog. It will bite.

Raj takes his dog along while going for a morning walk.

I am always in favour of people who are honest.

Raj has not stopped his smoking habit in spite of being seriously warned by his doctor.

The road is blocked owing to traffic jam.
