Words often confused and misused

Some words may phonetically sound the same but their meanings are very different. Here is a list of some pair of words that are generally confused and then misused.



1)Baneful ---> poisonous. E.g. Drink was the bane of his life.
Baleful ---> deadly. E.g. Her baleful looks.

2)Broach ----> to initiate or to open. E.g. To broach a topic.
Brooch ----> an ornament. E.g . The brooch that she is wearing is beautiful.

3)Extant ----> still exsisting.
Extent ----> degree.
Extinct----> no longer exsisting.


Sample Usage

Baneful--->The drink was the bane of his life.
Baleful --->Her baleful looks.

Broach --->To broach a topic.
Brooch --->The brooch that she is wearing is very beautiful.


Extant ---> The earliest extant of this manusscript is very interesting.
Extent ---> Find out to what extent he can bear the pain?.
Extinct ---> Dodo, a flightless bird, is extinct now.
