A postcard is a small is a small card (5.75x3.75 inches) on which a short message is written and sent by post. On one side of the card, there is blank space for the message which can continue on one half of the other side. The remaining half is for the name and address of the receiver.

Language: The postcard is used more for more personal communication than business communication. Therefore, its language is usually informal. There is generous use of informal greeting, contacted form of word and a conversational tone.

Contents: while writing postcard, do not include unnecessary details. Do not waste too many words on introduction. Talk more about your experience and feelings and how they have affected you. Show your love, respect and concern for the receiver as the case may be. Write as if you are conversing with receiver and narrating an anecdote to her/him.

Salutation and closing: You can begin your postcard with Dear -------- followed by the name of the receiver or simply with a ‘Hi!' close your message with a ‘Bye!' “See you later!" and ‘Yours' followed by your name or signature.

Date: An informal way of writing the date is acceptable for i.e. 7/12/2009. However, you can also date your postcard in the usual formal way i.e. 18th September, 2009. The date usually appears on the top right hand side of the postcard.

Receiver's Address: Write the correct and complete name in the first line. In the second line, write the house no. name of the street or locality. Name of the tehsil/tow/city/district and sate appears in the third line. A PIN number is a six digit area code. If the correct pin number is given in the address, write it in the given box. Otherwise leave it blank.

Dear Sanjeev

I've just finished packing my bag for tomorrow's journey to Goa. After God's own country, it is time for a Portuguese delight. The shimmering beaches of Goa are calling me. The cruise on board the Maharaja will be exciting. I guess. Well, I've go to go, my friends are calling me for the camp fire.

Catch you later

Yours

Rahul
