Recently there was a movie from India. The title was Slumdog Millionaire. I am sure now you come to know which movie I am talking about. Actually I am not talking about that movie and I am not going to give you a review, but I want to tell you that this word 'Slumdog' gained much popularity and I am going to explain you about this word.
The word looks to be formed of two words - 'Slum' which means a corner or a place in a town or a city which is characterized by poverty and poor housing and 'Dog' which we all know is an animal which barks and people use to tame it as a pet also. Due to this misconception, many people consider 'Slumdog' to be an abusive word. But in reality it is not an abusive word.
In reality 'Slumdog' is made of two words, that is for sure but the two words are not 'Slum' and 'Dog'. The two words are
1. Slumdweller - Which means someone who lives in a slum.
2. Underdog - Which means someone who hides many truths about him, many qualities and things like that. In Hindi, the word Underdog is translated into chupa rustam
Now I hope that the people who had misconception have understood about the correct word 'Slumdog', correct because it is not really an abuse.

1. Tanmay was such a slumdog, he pretended to be very poor, living in those huts, but he was a rich guy and had property of millions in Mumbai.
2. I don't think that people of slums are always slumdogs, most of them are really poor.
