It is used as a transitive verb as well as a noun.
Meaning :
As a noun it means an opening to allow water to run off like in draining off water from a floor or roof of building.
As a verb it means to cause somebody or something to fail i.e. to destroy or ruin some organization or an individual or a work.

Antonyms :

Etymology:
From Dutch 'schcepen' which means "to draw off"


Sample Usage

2)I suspect this will scupper the chances of one or two of the upcoming leaders.
3)This would completely scupper any bid that is going to be made.
4)We usually go before the prayer starts but the heavy traffic scuppered it today.
