Distraint (noun): Distraint is something holding as a debt in place of giving something on rent especially for holding property.
Taking someone's property to obtain payment of rent.

Originally distraint was a landlord's remedy against a tenant for unpaid rents or property damage, but now the landlord is given a landlord's lien.


Sample Usage

1. The landlord kept twenty thousand bucks as distraints from tenants.

2. Our company signs a bond from employees as distraint for their loyalty.

3. You should have distrait amount from your landlord.
