Difference between Denote and Connote

Denote is a verb.
Meanings: indicate; signify; symbolize; represent; stand for; mean.

Connote is a verb which means not just to denote but to imply something that is beyond the obvious meaning.




Sample Usage

1. Giving a red rose to a person generally denotes love for that person, while a yellow rose denotes just friendship.

2. The manner in which the athlete raised his fisted hand in the air connotes a gesture of defiance to the military rule.

3. The tiger mascot denoted the national animal.
