Bated breath

'Bated breath' means in anxiety or expectancy. When we get anxious about something we tend to breathe fast. Thus, this idiom has originated.

Sample Usage

1. Every Indian was waiting for the outcome of the cricket match with bated breath.
2. With bated breath, we watched the climax of the film.
