An experiment gives a step-by-step explanation of how something is done. The science experiment described in the school science books is the good example of this.

Guidelines for describing an Experiment

Mention the Aim of your experiment clearly in the beginning itself.

Mention the Material required accurately so that person can arrange them

The language of the instruction should be simple and easy to understand.

Explain the steps of experiment orderly.

Always write the experiment in imperative form

Do not forget to mention the Result followed by conclusion at the end of experiment.

Sample Usage

Read the following experiment


The aim of the experiment is to determine whether plants grow better in sand or in soil.

Materials Needed

1. 1 packet of radish seeds
2. 1 packet of carrot seeds
3. 1 packet of cucumber seeds
4. 6 plastic cups
5. Water
6. Soil
7. Sand


1. Gather all the materials needed
2. Fill three cups with soil up to a height of 5 cm
3. Fill another three cups with sand up to 1 cm
4. Divide each packet of seeds into six approximately equal parts.
5. Place each par in these six cups below the top layer of sand/soil *
6. water the cups every day.
7. Remove the plants on the third-fifth day.
8. Weigh the plants using a beam balance.


You will find that the plants that grew in soil weigh more
