Wild-goose chase

Meaning of Wild Goose Chase: A worthless hunt or chase. An attempt to accomplish something impossible or unlikely of attainment.

Description: If we attempt to catch a wild goose by chasing after it, we will gain nothing. In the same way, when we do any task whose execution is inordinately complex relative to the value of the outcome, we use this idiom "wild-goose chase".


Sample Usage

1. I went on a wild-goose chase all over the town looking for that game CD until I discovered they no longer make it.
2. Philip was angry because he was sent out on a wild-goose chase to look for an adapter that is no longer made.
3. I wasted the entire day on a wild-goose chase.
