Difference between 'Lie' and 'Lay'

Lie
To lie is to recline.

Lay
To lay is to place an object.
Lay is the past form of lie and the past form of laid.


Sample Usage

Lie
1. He is lying in bed.
2. Lie down on the bed until you feel better.
3. It would be a lie to say i knew,because i did not.

Lay
1. The mother is laying the son on the bed.
2. She laid the clothes in a drawer.
