  • It is only with sunlight that photosynthesis is possible and not with artificial lights.

    Photosynthesis is a process that converts carbon dioxide, water and light into carbohydrates which is used by the plants. The carbohydrates are then further broken down into various compounds needed by the plants for their growth.

    Photosynthesis occurs in the presence of sunlight but it is very much possible in artificial light as well .Plants will need light of the right frequency or the entire visible spectrum for doing that.

    In fact it is done in indoor gardening and in the absence of sunlight all the time. Lights and bulbs of special types are needed to do so.

    The distance between the light and the plant will determine the amount of light energy received by the plant. The closer the source of light to the plant more will be the light energy received. The rate of photosynthesis will vary in sunlight and artificial lights.

    Yes, obviously, photosynthesis actually happens in presence of artificial light! There should not be any doubt about that, I think. You might have heard about Tissue Culture, right? It's done with the help of Biotechnology. You know what, there is a stage named in the lifecycle of every living beings including Plants, which is known as Totipotency. And you might have also heard about the latest BT BEGUN!! These all are results of hard experiments inside the laboratories using totipotency stage of plants, that help produce new, more nutritional, of more medicinal importance plants, which all are grown first inside the lab in presence of artificial light only. After it is grown up enough, transferred to the fields for growing naturally.
    IT MEANS PLANTS CAN BE GROWN IN ARTIFICIAL LIGHT!!

    And there are some Ornamental plants also which are grown inside houses in presence of Artificial Light, and they grow superb!!

  • The chances for the photo synthesis to happen in the artificial light is less.

    Because, the natural food making system done in the plants, photo systhesis need the sun light. while the sun light projecting on the leaves of the plants, the reaction between the carbon di oxide of the atmospheric air with the water from the ground through the root of the plant happens with the support of the vitamin E from the sun light.

    as this vitamin is not available with the artificial light, the chance for the photo systhesis under the artificial light is low.

  • hello,photosynthesis can be done in artificial light but the condition is that it should provide vitamins & other material which is present in sunlight.it should be able to give equivalent to sunlight energy but up to necessary.

  • Photosynthesis is the conversion of carbon dioxide and water into a sugar called glucose using sunlight energy. Oxygen is produced as a waste product.

    for this phenomenon a fixed wavelength light is required,which is present in sunlight.
    in ordinary light the required amount of wave length is not present which is required for photosynthesis.

    Photosynthesis is the process which converts CO2 water into glucose and oxygen using energy from light in the presence of chlorophyll.
    Now the main source of light for them is sunlight.plant can also use artificial light providing that it contains the right frequencies(color).

  • Sometimes photosynthesis is limited by the concentration of carbon dioxide in the air. Even if there is plenty of light, a plant cannot photosynthesise if there is insufficient carbon dioxide.

  • photosynthesis is a very complicated and sensitive process. it depends a lot on the wavelength and intensity of light. In artificial light Photo synthesis is possible but it can happen only up-to some extent not in a very extensive rate.

  • Yes, photosynthesis can occur in artificial light. Photosynthesis is a process which occurs due to excitation of electrons from the photosystem II. In nature the energy for excitation of electron is provided by sunlight. If energy of light is greater than the energy needed to excite electron photosynthesis can occur even with artificial light. Photosynthesis increases with intensity of light but very high intensity of light decreases photosynthesis as it bleaches the chlorophyll. The rate is also affected by the wavelength of light. Visible light contains wavelength from 400 to 700 nm. Plants reflect green light (due to which they look green) and absorbs red or blue light. Therefore plants grown in red light will show more photosynthesis than plants grown in other color of light.
