  • Greetings,

    MBA:

MBA stands for Master of Business Administration. This course is offered only by universities. A college can provide MBA degree if and only if that college is affiliated to a recognized university.

    PGDM:

PGDM stands for Post Graduate Diploma in Management. Generally this course is offered by the Institutes or colleges that are not affiliated to any university. PGDM or PGDBM etc are generally the internal courses offered by the college itself.

    MBA and PGDM are Equivalent:
The syllabus of both MBA and PGDM are more or less same. Moreover, they are considered as equivalent. So, one can opt for any of the two courses without worrying about its recognition or reputation in Companies.

    Difference between MBA and PGDM

    >> MBA is a post graduate degree which can be awarded to students by the Universities recognized by UGC.

    >> Whereas Post Graduate Diploma in Management i.e PGDM can be awarded by the AICTE approved independent institutions.

    >> Both MBA and PGDM are full time two year management programs.

    >> Even autonomous like IIMs can not offer MBA degree in management. Instead they are allowed to offer PGDM.

    >> Moreover industries in public and private sectors give equal status to both MBA and PGDM while offering jobs.

    >> PGDM students can not pursue Phd program but MBA students are eligible for Phd program.

    >> For the post of lecturer in any recognized University PGDM candidates may be allowed to apply according to UGC rule. Whereas MBA candidates can apply for the post of lecturer in any recognized University.

    >> However there is no difference in the course curriculum in both MBA and PGDM.

    >> The main difference of MBA and PGDM is that PGDM is a professional as per present industry requirements whereas MBA degree is theory based examination oriented.
