    Hello,
    I have a nice resume for my job applications. As long as I checked it, I dont find any mistakes in it. How can check it for mistakes from the recruiter's point of view?. How can i make the recruiters get attracted with my resume?

  • Hi friend,

    A resume is nothing but a detailed profile of a person. So unique things should be highlighed in a resume.

    A resume should contain the following:

    a. Main objective
    b. Educational qualification
    c. Additional courses apart from regular syllabus in school and college
    d. Co curricular activities
    e. Prizes and awards
    f. Projects and your role in that project in the past experience
    g. Personal information with contact details

    A resume should be highlighted the objective portion and projects done in the past. If your project is unique by way of different from other projects, highlight the points why it is different.

    Highlight the courses studied which is only relevant for that job. Otherwise, don't put in the resume. This will make the employer not to come for a conclusion about your qualification.

    Highlight the projects undergone in your previous employment. You have to mention your contribution in that project which should be relevant for applying current job.

    Unnecessarily don't put all words in bold or making font sizes big. Font size should be of same size and your font also should be same throughout resume. Otherwise it will give a bad impression.

    So follow the above steps and prepare a good resume with unique points highlighted. This will make the employer a good impression about you and your resume.
    Wish you all the best!

  • Hi,

    First of all there is no particular format for preparing a resume. But it should definitely have some basic details as follows.

    * Career Objective
    * Academic details
    * Project details
    * Achievements and Awards
    * Hobbies and Skills
    * Extra curricular activities
    * Personal details

    Apart from this, if you have anything else, you can add that too with relevant heading.

    For checking a resume, give your resume to those who already got their jobs and ask them to check it. Also if you know any company's HR official, you can also show it to them and ask for suggestion.

    All the best,
    Rizwan.

  • Hello friends,

    Recruiter give more importance and preference to experience and achievements in the field. You should write every significant experience relevant to the post applied.

    Besides the valuable details mentioned above by my friends, you should precisely include key skills and abilities relevant to the field.

    The objectives,hobbies, skills and co-curricular activities. should be relevant to the post and job applied. You should avoid unnecessary information about yourself. The resume should be concise but it should speak volumes about your contribution, experience and achievements in the field.

  • Hi,
    The resume is the mirror image of a candidate,applying for the job.Just imagine,a recruiter/HR manager is calling a candidate for job interview,without meeting him/her in person.The basis is only the resume/CV,sent by the applicant.Why only few out of total applicants are called,while many got disappointed.
    The reason is that those few have their resume,effective.i.e. seems to be suitable to the need of the recruiter.
    Therefore while preparing a resume,please note that:
    1] The resume should be specific to the requirement.
    2] The objective should be mentioned,which should speak of ones plan for the future.This should match to the requirement.
    3] There should not be any grammatical or spelling mistake.
    4]There should not be any inexplicit word,i.e.the meaning of the word/phrase,is not known to you.
    5]The resume must be structured & should not be a copy paste affair,of any format from the internet.
    6]The working experience[if any]should be mentioned.
    7]The educational qualifications,with highlights on academic achiements[if any].
    8]Mention any professional skills,required for the accomplishment of the job.
    9]Any projects/internship should be mentioned.
    10]Achievements in extra curricular activities/sports must be highlghted.
    11]Achievements,makes a recruiter to believe that past experiences shows the ability to perform in future.
    12]Keep the desired skill set in mind,while preparing a resume.
    13]The proper margin,should be kept on the left side of the paper,while preparing a resume.
    14]The resume should be neat,with no faded words.
    15]The resume must be printed,by a laser printer,on A4 size paper.
    16]Remember,your resume will be your questionnaire,for the job interview.All the questions,at the time of interview will be asked from your resume only.
    17]Remember,resume should not have your physical statististics[except,if asked].
    18]The resume,should be signed,with date & place.
    with best wishes,
    Arun

  • Hello

    We may say that your resume is the only means through which you can catch the eyes of recruiters as it is the first thing they watch before calling you to an interview.

    So one's resume should resemble his/her ideas, previous experiences, attitude, qualifications and most importantly why he/she is interested to join that particular job.

    This gives the recruiters a brief idea of your capabilities and interests which may add chances of your getting appointed.

    To get more clear idea you may take sample resumes from internet and see them closely for different ideas.

    If you don't have any knowledge of building resume, these days many online websites are offering free resume creating softwares with numerous templates. All you need to do is to give your information, the site itself creates resume for you.

    As we all know, there is no shortcut to success it is always advisable to build a resume by yourself with your own creation.

    Never claim any skills which you orginally don't possess and try to avoid words which mean like ...I know I'm eligible for this job... etc.,

    * To check mistakes in your resume it is better to concern any senior officials who are presently working in this field like HRs.

    * If you don't have any contacts you better search for communities and discussion forums regarding this topic and post your sample resume there and seek their comments.( It is always advisable to edit important private information before posting them in public )

    REGARDS:
    Govind.

  • Most of the significant features has been very well covered by the experts in the forum, so I would not like to repeat those points.
    Couple of points from my side are:

    a) Have the CV concise. On an average, for exp <5yr, max 3 page and >5 and <10 year max 5 page is well enough. Having long CV means most of the part remains unread, so inadvertently some of your vital information might be missed

    b) Explain the relevant experience which you want to highlight. For e.g: If you have worked on an IT project, you are spoilt for choices on what to write on the CV. Like you might want to write the functionality of the product or technology of the product or the client utility of the product. But if you are looking for a techie job, mention the technology used more, but if you are looking for business analyst position, highlight/explain the functionality more
