What food should be allowed for typhoid patient after some recovery?

Have you recently recovered somewhat from typhoid? Find out in this thread on the foods which you can eat after recovering from typhoid.

I was diagnosed with typhoid few days before and was admitted to hospital for the treatment. Now I am recovered mostly. I want to know which are the allowable foods for typhoid patient going under recovery stage? What should be allowed and what should not be. Doctor suggests me to eat only light food like dal-rice or khichdi.

  • The best food for Typhoid is as follows;

    All fruits
    Idly
    Curd rice
    Milk
    Payasam
    Glucose
Plenty of hot water (with cold status)
    Rava/Sooji items
    Dal with less spicy
Less oil and less spicy item

Don't consume any Non-veg items and some Veg items which has more spicy and cause over acidity like Paani poori or Masala Poori etc.

Generally one become weaker during normal fever, and when Typhoid - more weak and tired, thus one has to drink plenty of Glucose, fruits, Veg salad and other less spicy liquid items viz. Sooji soup/kanji. After one or two weeks, you may then start slowly medium spicy or Rasam type or normal veg curries.

  • Hi Paresh, Happy that you have completely recovered. There is no need of any food restriction if your typhoid was uncomplicated. Complications of typhoid include intestinal ulcers, liver compromise.

If your intestine is sore or if you have any ulcer then you can not take spicy food. If you have any liver problem then depending on the severity less intake of oily(fatty) food is suggested. Else eat normally.

    Eat well and stay well!

  • There is no food restriction during or after typhoid fever as against myth that cereals be not taken during typhoid fever. The only point is that one must take hygienic home prepared food as you can not be sure of hygienic practices followed in restaurants, eateries and Hotels. Seven days after saying good bye to medicines as per doctor's advice you should also get tested for typhoid and if the trend is constant or decreasing then there is no need of worry but if the trend is increasing then consult the doctor again. Do not self medicate as simple viral fevers have tendency to turn typhoid due to antibiotic resistances.

  • As after the recovery from typhoid fever . Person suffers from loss of proteins and due to affected gastrointestinal loss of nutrients may also occur. So affected person should intake 3-5 small meals for few days after recovery. Food to be taken as follows juices, fruits like banana , milk , rava, coconut water, eggs, potato and he has to avoid fried , fast food , spicy food , butter , ghee. And should intake good quantity of water. And take care and do rest
