    Reasons and effects of high heart rate

    My female cousin having 21 years old is suffering from high heart rate. Her normal heart rate range is 90-120. She did not suffer from chest pain till now. Her ECG shows 117 bpm and it shows certain variation. She has no thyroid problems. Cholesterol and haemoglobin levels are normal. But, her fasting blood sugar level is 90.

    What is the reason behind this increased heart rate ?

    Also, I want to know the effects of high heart rate?

  • Increased Heart rate also called Tachycardia may be due to various cause. Some of them are
  • Depression or any psychiatric disorders

  • Anxiety

  • Doing any strenuous activity

  • Over weight or Obesity

  • Fever, abnormal potassium levels in blood, intake of certain drugs like anti hypertensive drugs, anti asthmatic drugs etc.

    Advice your cousin to visit Physician first and if needed she can visit Cardiologist. Ask her to check
    Blood pressure at frequent intervals. And also if she is under any medication for other illness like respiratory diseases or depression ask her to consult her specialist to reduce the dose.
    Some home remedies:
  • Breathing exercise can help to reduce stress as well as palpitation

  • Some simple yoga and pranayama's can also be preformed

  • Ask her to preform meditation atleast twice a day

  • Most important thing is to reduce anger

    During anger,there will be release of some hormones like adrenaline and cortisol which when over produced will produce toxic effect on heart. And also anger accelerate the process of Atherosclerosis, a condition in which there is deposition of fat on the walls of blood vessels which leads to narrowing of vessels of heart, there by causing high risk for heart disease and stroke.

    Abnormal potassium level and heart ailment?
    High potassium level in blood can lead to variation in the electrical conduction of heart, variation in heart rhythm which further leads to myocardial infarction and heart attack.
  • Normal potassium level is 3.5 to 5.0.

  • High value is above 6.0

  • Diet to take
    Ask her to take these foods if her potassium level is high.
  • Fruits like Apple, grapes, cherry, pine apple, strawberry, watermelon

  • Vegetables like radish, beans, cauliflower, white mushroom, green peas etc.


  • If there is low potassium level ask her to take these food
  • Fruits like banana, dried fruit, fig, orange, pomegranate

  • Vegetables like raw carrot, spinach, pumpkin, broccoli, potato, greens, tomato products etc.
