Changing name on Aadhar card

Yes, it is possible to get one's name changed on the Aadhaar card and retain the same card number. Change of one's name, gender, date of birth, address and mobile number can be done through the online mode. For any other changes or updates, one has to personally visit the Aadhaar Enrollment / Update Center.

How to update name on Aadhaar Card:

1. Visit https://ssup.uidai.gov.in/web/guest/update and put in your request.


2. You will need to upload a self attested copy of the relevant documents for correction of your name. For change of name, the document will be of a Proof of Identity (PoI). This could be any of the following: Passport, PAN Card, Ration/ PDS Photo Card, Voter ID, Driving License.

You can change your Name in Adhar card online by following three simple steps:

Log on to Adhar card self service online portal using your Adhar number. Refer to https://ssup.uidai.gov.in/web/guest/update

Submit your request to change data.

Upload the self attested copies of your identification proof.

Once you are done with the above formalities, you will be given an Update Request number. You can use this number to monitor the change or for future reference.

You can easily update any information like Name, Address, DOB, Father's Name, etc. through Aadhar Self Service Update Portal only if you have correct mobile number registered on your Aadhar Card. If the appropriate mobile number is registered in your Aadhar Card, then an OTP will be generated on your cellphone and you can easily login to your Aadhar Self Update Portal and further update it. You will be required to upload certain documents for updating your Aadhar Card information.

In case, your mobile number registered in the Aadhar Card is incorrect. Then, you won't be able to login in Aadhar Self Service Update Portal and ultimately, you can't update your Aadhar Card Online. Now, other option for you is to update your Aadhar Card through Speed post. You will have to download a Aadhar Update Form, fill it and send it to your regional office with relevant documents.

After the successful submission of the Form in the regional office, you will get a confirmation message at your registered mobile number. And within a month, a new Aadhar Card will be delivered at your Address.
