  • As per information made available on website, IGNOU is a CENTRAL UNIVERSITY established by Act of Parliament in 1985. IGNOU Degrees / Diplomas / Certificates are recognized by the Association of the Indian Universities (AIU) and AICTE and are at par with Degrees / Diplomas / Certificates of all the Indian Universities / Deemed Universities / Institutions.
After HSC, education and subsequent career options are available in many fields. If you like science stream , then go for it. You will have to work very hard in your chosen field. In case you are able to clear your chosen course with outstanding scores, your future career progression will be easier.

Let us encourage each other in sharing knowledge.

  • You already have nice percentage in HSC so I would suggest you to do regular course, don't opt distance mode education. Degree from regular mode is always having higher priority as compare to distance mode education. If you wish to pursue B.Sc in chemistry then apply in good colleges. You will surely get admission in good college as because you are having good percentage in HSC. You can also do B.Pharma , this area is also having good future.
Certificate from IGNOU is valid so there is no problem for your future if you do your graduation from IGNOU. So from wherever you plan to do B.Sc just do it in regular mode education not in distance mode.
Wish you all the best for your brighter future.

  • Indira Gandhi National Open University and Distance Learning is known as IGNOU in short. It provides both open and distance learning systems with international recognition and with study centers at various places of India and abroad as well. The university was established in 1985 and provides quality education to its pupils mainly aimed at reaching the unreached. It is one of the best distance education institutions in India.

Getting a certificate on completion of any course from IGNOU has its own value and undoubtedly is recognized across the world. It is pointless to doubt the worthiness of the certificate obtained through this university.

You can happily go ahead with your admission in B.Sc Chemistry and after completion on your graduation course, you can even go for Post Graduate course through distance mode of learning based on your affordability to pursue higher education.

When it comes to the best way of shaping your career, obviously you are the best one to do so as you are well aware of your areas of interest which you haven't mentioned here. Others can only suggest you various possible options but it is in your hands to make your career in the best possible way.

Understand your area of interest and act accordingly. For example if you are interested in going into academic line, then you can pursue higher education, go for Ph.D in a specific thesis of your interest after completion of your PG and then appear UGC NET exams or state level NET exams which is one of the qualifying criteria for applying for teaching posts in degree colleges / universities.

Or if you are interested in some other field, then accordingly pursue your studies to make a career in the area of your interest.

    Thanks & Regards

  • All institutions which are offering distance education are normally recognized by our University Grants Commission. We can verify whether the university or institution through which we intend to join. Moreover, the IGNOU is recognized one and its courses normally recognized. Moreover the courses we are doing after basic graduation are only for our improvement in employment and therefore the study after basic education are removing fear in learning through training given during our employment. Your study if meant for increment or promotion only other than self interest means the total study is becoming a waste.

  • In ideal scenario, education matters, it is not the place that matters. However, distance education is often not considered favorable by some of the work environment so you have to be careful on that one.

I suggest going proper route for education instead of distance education. IGNOU is recognized and works very hard for their students, however there is not much support for the people who are graduating from that place.

I personally think distance education is good enough but not for the long term. You can have post graduation from IGNOU but for graduation, go with the recognized university.

  • I would suggest you a full time degree from any college and later do your post graduation in IGNOU.

IGNOU post graduation will be considered for promotions and give an extra point during interview when you look jobs.

but getting a job by IGNOU degree directly will be difficult task.

  • As far as the authenticity of IGNU is concerned, the degrees are fully recognised and is approved by UGC and there is no room for apprehension of the validity of such qualification.
B.Sc with Chemistry consists of two components, main being the theory portion and the other part is the practical, In regular course, the aspirants are trained in the laboratory with different chemical tests. Such experiments are essential to understand the different mechanisms of the theory portions. The professor attached to the laboratory takes pain in alleviating the doubts that may crop up in the minds of the students. So, the entire process is helpful for acquiring a sound concept. This facility may not accompany with the IGNU course.
Since, you have secured 76 percent marks in HSC and hence for your better prospects, go ahead with the the regular under graduate course.

  • Distance education is less accepted in any industry than regular mode of education. It is true that student who has completed distance education get less job opportunities, less salary. As you want to do B.Sc. Chemistry through distance mode it is actually not advisable for you to do that. Because this course includes theory and practical study of the subject. In distance mode it is difficult for you to do such type of study. Hence if possible do not study in distance mode.

  • People always confuse between the courses done through other universities in distance mode with IGNOU and also doing science courses. IGNOU caters science education in distance mode through some of the study centres across the country and practicals are done in the study centres as these centres are regular colleges offering their infrastructure to the students of IGNOU in week ends and hence the doubt of practical concept may be ruled out.

It is also to be noted that the materials prepared for IGNOU by specialist academicians are used by civil service aspirants too which may prove its worthiness beyond doubtful.

I have personally come across many students who have done graduation in IGNOU have easily cracked the Bank officer's examination too immediately after graduation. So one has to do very sincerely the graduation.

Also another unique feature in this university is placement drive which may also be noted in their website in their campus placement cell.

However you may have to think well whether you can able to do confident self study.

  • If you want to pursue your career in India, it's fine! United Arab Emirates, for example, doesn't recognize many universities providing distance education and certificates obtained therein! In the qualifying certificates of Diploma in Computer Engineering from a regular Technical Board and graduations obtained from IGNOU, only Diploma is considered and the rest is not!!
